I'm considering starting one but as I've never ran a PBEm campaign before I don't really know how it would work

How would dice rolls be handled? Would I (the DM) have to roll them on the players' behalf) and would that include Chracter Gen?

Would playing be a case of as and when or would a set time / day have to be alotted?

How would I and the other players keep up with character positions and terrain?

If I think of any more questions I'll keep you informed

Mod Edit: Shifted to a more appropriate shelf.

Kuje might be able to help. He's running one right now.

I did reply to your PM. :)

For some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth. What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet and excite you... Books are full of the things that you don't get in real life - wonderful, lyrical language, for instance, right off the bat. - Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird
