Page 21 of The Dalelands (2e): This reinforced tower
is the home of Constable Tren and his picked guards.
It sits at the town's highest point. Sightseeing adventurers
are turned away with a sneer.

Vs

Page 83 of Volos Guide to The Dalelands it says it's overrun with fell magic.

I think it's one in the same and my buddy agrees, they just changed it...?

It bothers me for some reason.

The Dalelands is from 1367. Volo's is for 1370. In that time, the events of the Randal Morn published 2e adventures has happened. Those events changed the tower to what it is now as mentioned in Volo's. For me, that just shows that things do change in the Realms over time. That makes it more like a real place to me.
