I know how he feels about Maztica and other regions he felt were just “tacked on” but what is Mr Greenwood’s views on Realmspace? Has he had a hand in any development or Sage Advice that is explicitly Realmspace based?

One of the best of the Spelljammer supplements, overall, and easily the best of the SJR series of books. (Also, from the previews of the minis that are coming out for Spelljammer, some of the ship designs from that book are going to be in the new version of Spelljammer)

Ed also wrote a Spelljammer article in Dragon 159, "Rough Times on Refuge"

Just found another Spelljammer bit from Ed... In his article in the Border Kingdoms series, Free Barony of Felshroun, there's an NPC with some serious interest in spelljamming stuff, to the point of having her own ship that she uses to send her apprentices to other spheres.

Ed has littered his Realmslore since the inception of the Spelljammer line with references to spelljammer helms etc. He has a lot of love and respect for Jeff Grubb, the line's founder so I would say that yes, he's a fan.

To Seethyr's question though... how much was Ed involved with "realmspace" as opposed to "spelljammer". I get that some folks here don't like the planets designed for realmspace (and I can appreciate that... I think some of the planets suck... but the more I work with them the more palatable they become). I very much think Ed would like spelljammer since he was using skyships from the get go. But would he have liked Coliar, Glyth, H'Catha, etc....

Ed's not mentioned in the book -- not even in the "thanks to" section.

I'm neutral about most of the information about the planets in Realmspace -- with the exception of Toril and its moon. Practically none on the information on Toril matches anything mentioned in Realmslore; some of it is even contradicted in Realmslore. And while I know others like the Realmspace description of Selûne, I find it hugely problematic, to the point of being too much trouble to try to fix it.

I don't recall much about Greyspace; partially because that was my least favorite of the big three settings and I barely touched on it. Krynnspace, on the other hand, was overflowing with bad ideas, and had at least one bit of "lore" that directly contradicted existing Dragonlance lore.

This is why, overall, I think the *space books should be entirely disregarded as lore for their host settings. There was clearly no coordination happening there (Spelljammer itself was something of an uncoordinated mess), and for at least two of those books, the authors did not know much about the host setting they were describing.

Being blunter than I normally am, there's a common thread: Realmspace, Netheril, and the first draft of The North boxed set were all written by the same author. Two of the three books were fixed by other folks before publication of The North. (The Daggerford book was not.)

Sage Advice (in the Spelljammer era) was Skip Williams alone, IIRC.

To the rest, the answer seems to be: not as much as Steven Schend (see the references in Calimport, Cormanthyr, Lands of Intrigue etc), but Good Ol' Ed definitely was into Spelljammer stuff.

So it seems not as much a bug, as a mostly-failed feature. That is, all "*space" books were done not by major designers in the respective settings, presumably as an attempt to tap different styles for "we are not in Kansas anymore" effect.

I would say it was more likely that TSR's leadership just tapped whoever was available.
