Finished Ghost Story by Jim Butcher. I really liked what he did with this one.
I really liked the revelations about who shot Harry.
Yes, I thought that was very well done.
I though the entire book was well done, especially that final whisper from Uriel :)

I started and finished Armada; I stayed up later than I should to finish it.
It's not quite as good as Ready Player One, but that's a high bar to set. I still quite enjoyed the book; it's made my list of fave books of the year.
My next reading choices were either Sense & Sensibility or Ender's Game. The former is not something I'd usually go for, but in the last few years, I've broadened my reading horizons just the tiniest bit. And I did enjoy Pride & Prejudice.
I decided to do Sense & Sensibility first, because Armada was influenced by Ender's Game, and I wanted something different. So Ender's Game will be next on the list. I'll likely need to find another standalone book or two to squeeze in there before the reprint of Neverwhere comes out, as well. |

Finished Charon's Claw. Enjoyed it, but Salvatore's uber-hinting really subtracted from would have been a nice pay-off in the end. It's nice when an author actually realizes that their readers aren't as stupid as they think we are.
Resuming Realms of War to finish up the last few short stories. |

So I finished Sense & Sensibility... I didn't dislike it, but it didn't work for me. It was another of those that I was eager to finish, just to move on to something else.
I started Ender's Game this morn. So far it's just weird. At this point in the book, Ender is only 6, but he's showing a way of thinking that some that are 16 (or older!) don't demonstrate.
But that's a minor quibble; I've barely started the book. We'll see how it goes as I get further into it. |

The characters just don't work for me, but I'm otherwise enjoying Ender's Game. I've got maybe another hour of reading before I finish it.
Next up will be a Shadowrun anthology, Spells & Chrome. I picked it to be next because it's an anthology -- it'll be really easy to put it aside in favor of the re-release of Neverwhere on Tuesday. |

Wooly,
I got an authors proffered text version of Neverwhere in like 2006-ish....are there new additions or changes to this release? |

The blurbage online says:
quote: The #1 New York Times bestselling author’s ultimate edition of his wildly successful first novel featuring his “preferred text”—and including the special “Neverwhere” tale “How the Marquis Got His Coat Back.”
Published in 1997, Neil Gaiman’s darkly hypnotic first novel, Neverwhere, heralded the arrival of this major talent and became a touchstone of urban fantasy. Over the years, a number of versions were produced both in the U.S. and the U.K. Now, this author’s preferred edition of his classic novel reconciles these versions and reinstates a number of scenes cut from the original published books.
And it's a hardcover that just dropped today. |

I thought they were ok. A short story really has to be something spectacular for me to rate it any higher than just average. |

I've been catching up on my FR novels, and am in the middle of Elminster Enraged now. I think I need to read all of the Erevis Cale books (the two trilogies; I already read all of the Sembia series) and the Erin Evans books before starting in on The Sundering series. The joy is in the journey, and I am enjoying the ride with all these books!
Edit: Looks like I still have the Neverwinter books left to go, also. There go another four books to read! |

Back on Spells & Chrome, after starting and finishing Neverwhere this weekend. Next up will be World of Shadows, another Shadowrun anthology. I might not have queued it up next, but when I met Michael Stackpole the other day, he mentioned he had a story in there, focusing on Wolfgang Kies -- I always enjoyed the Wolf and Raven stories.
Next up after that will be the Dragonvarld trilogy by Margaret Weis; she autographed them when I bought them from her booth this weekend. |

Finished The Last Threshold. It was a good book overall, but Salvatore's dialogue between Dhalia and Drizzt was hard to stomach. |

For the first time?!? Oh, boy, you're in for a great read!
If it wasn't for the Chronicles and Legends, I likely never would have gotten into the Realms -- the first Realms novel I bought, what caught my eye was the "from the publishers of the Dragonlance Saga!" blurb. |

That's what most people say! I'm enjoying it so far. I read a few Dragonlance books back in the day, but not one of the "core" novels. |

Finally finished that Shadowrun anthology. This morn I started Mistress of Dragons, one of the books I purchased from, and had signed by, Margaret Weis, at GenCon. I bought the whole Dargonvarld trilogy from her. |

I've also been reading X-Treme Dungeon Mastery. When I bought it from him at GenCon, Tracy Hickman personally assured me it was the most important RPG book ever written. I don't know about that, but it is quite a humorous read -- as I should have expected, once I saw that he provided one of the author's blurbs on the back cover (of a book he wrote!), and that even the back cover had footnotes.
When he signed it, he wrote "you go up a level." I'm sure this refers to the "XDM levels" described in the book, but I tried to use it with my DM to justify my character going up a level. As expected, he didn't buy it.
It was said, though, that if we were playing a Dragonlance campaign, he might have considered it. |

About halfway through Fool Moon by Jim Butcher. The second book in the Dresden files series is proving to a lot more enjoyable than the first, |

I recently finished Gauntlgrym.
I thought I would expand my horizon in the Realms. I've only read Realms lore from a select few authors. I really want to get into new series', especially some of the older ones. Elminster is on my list.
But for now, I'm diving into Forsaken House by Richard Baker. The only Baker novel I've read, was his installation in the WOTSQ series. What are people's thoughts on Forsaken House? |
"Surrender now, or we will slay you!" the leader of the creatures called, a bit louder and more forcefully. "A moment, please, my friend," Zasian said, motioning to the dwarf for patience. "We are discussing your terms."
"Ye heading off with Invo . . . Inno . . . that durned elf?" |

I haven't read Forsaken House, but Richard Baker is, imo, one of the best authors to have written for the Realms. His Blades of the Moonsea trilogy is one of my favorite realms works. Forsaken House is definitely on my to-read list. |

Awesome, thanks for the feedback. I'll update my thoughts on the book as I progress farther. |
