-THAC0-- To Hit AC Zero. A pre-3/3.5 term that refers to how the probability of a creature hitting its target with an attack was figured. In this case, each class granted a base To Hit number, modified by Str or Dex depending on the attack type, magic, and other factors. Then it has the AC of the target subtracted from it to determine the actual To Hit number for a specific AC. The attacker has to roll higher than the final number. AC 0 does not modify the final To Hit number, so it is easy to use this number to figure other To Hit numbers from THAC0. THAC0 is roughly analagous to BAB.

Hi Fillow

Could you add this abbreviation I just learned to the lists?

Retcon -- RETroactive CONtinuity. When previously established lore is retroactively changed for the purpose of continuity.

Thanks,
Afet

Better than perfect !

And retcon is now in the directory !

Thanks a lot for helping before I even asked !

I myself found out by using the super high tech query method. I asked: "what does retcon mean?"
And, as I figured I probably wasn't the only one scratching my head, I thought it should be included in your list. Thanks for this list by the way. It's really helpful.

Hi Fillow,

Could you add these two abbreviations to the list
d20 -- d20 gaming system
DDi or DDI -- Dungeons & Dragons Insider (4th Edition)

In both cases, the abbreviation also means something else.

Cheers,
Afet

You're totally right.
I forgot to add 4E terms.
Does someone know them at the moment ?

Hmm. I'm surprised that isn't already on the list, as that is one of the most widely used acronyms here (and in other places where the Realms is discussed).

I don't really think that would be particularly easy at the moment. We still know so little about 4e, the core D&D rules, and terms relevant to the 4e Realms, that it would make it next to impossible to compile both an effective and useful list.

I'd at least wait until the June-to-August period. By that time, we should all have some fair idea about what terms will become commonplace when talking about 4e D&D or the 4e Realms.

Well met, Sage.

Perhaps you would consider putting a reference to this topic into your standard greeting to new scribes. As a newbie myself, I've often had to come here to Fillow's list to make sense of conversations between long-time members.

Cheers,

Don't be sorry, it's a simple mistake anyone could have been made, and not a big deal.

Of course, having said that, it doesn't mean we can't start compiling a short-list of words/terms we already know from the previews and other 4e stuff posted online at WotC. But until the 4e core rulebooks are published and released, the 4e listing should be kept separate.

N.B. : MMORPG joined MMORG
N.B. : N.B. = Nota Bene.
I think it exists in English but I all the same joined it to the list !

Thanks, Fillow.
N.B. is relatively common in English and I suspect most would understand its general meaning, even if they do not know the Latin words it represents or understand their exact meaning. Still, some younger scribes might not be familiar with it. You might consider adding the following to that entry: [Latin: "Note Well" or "Take Notice"].
