I'm looking forward to the 5e FRCG, but in the meantime I'm thinking about what could happen to the elves of Realms, and in particular their various communities. Pure speculation I know, but it would be interesting to know what other readers think about this.
1) Ethos
Following the events of the Last Mythal series and The Herald, are the elves still in 'Return to Faerun' mode? Or will they retreat to the Feywild? Also, as has been shown multiple times in their history, their pride & isolationist tendencies are frequently their undoing; will their leaders learn from this (Ilsevele certainly seems to realize this) & cooperate more with the other races? 'Proud, haughty, racist elves get their comeuppance' has been a trope for a long time now, and I think it stretches credibility to think that most of them will not learn the lessons of their history.
2) Evermeet
Is the elven realm of Evermeet still stuck in the Feywild? Or with the end of the Sundering, will it come back? Will the disappearance of Amlaruil be explained (or ended)? Not to mention the mystery surrounding the fate of several of her children.
Personally, I would like to see Evermeet return from the Feywild. I also think its time for Amlaruil to head off to Arvandor (which is where is probably is already), and hand over to the 'younger' generations. Speaking of which, I always thought it was weird how noone knew which (if any) of her twin sons survived the Elf-eater's attack on Synnoria in the Moonshaes. Didn't anyone think to go & find out? Also, you'd think that the surviving Synnoria elves would have thought it pretty important to send news to the boys' mother.....
3) Myth Drannor
From what we know from Ed's recent replies in his Q&A thread here, Myth Drannor looks like it could be resettled, repopulated & rebuilt. As the Tree of Souls is still standing, protecting it is presumably a high priority for elves in Faerun. So I suspect that we've not seen the last of Ilsevele & Fflar.
4) Evereska
As things stand now, this is now the largest & most powerful independent elven realm in Faerun, right? Before the events of The Herald, we learned that the Evereskans were starting to come out of their shell, cooperating with forces from Myth Drannor in containing the Shadovar. Will they continue this engagement with the outside world? Given the state of Myth Drannor now, I'd guess that they will see the protection of the Tree of Souls as one of their responsibilities.
5) Sildeyuir
The last we saw, Sildeyuir was under attack, and the star elves fast dwindling. Are they going to become extinct, or return to Faerun?
6) Synnoria & Sarifal
Sooner or later, High Lady Ordalf is going to die; when she does, will her realm of Sarifal remain in Faerun, or return to the Feywild?
I think the proposed political marriage of her son to a Kendrick princess is an interesting plot line; does this presage the return of humans to Gwynneth, and the opening-up of Synnoria to the outside world?
