Is it known what lands were part of Ed Greenwood's original Forgotten Realms concepts and what has been added as a Campaign Setting by TSR/WotC? |

Maybe we ought to start a crowdfunding campaign so Ed can attain the FR rights from WotC and reintroduce it to his original visions. He could weave in what he loved from other creators/authors that felt like his realms. LOL just a fanboy thought. |

The Moonshaes are not his. They were at first created to be part of the Dragonlance world, and Ed has declared that his Moonshaes were more akin to Earthsea. And the published version of Netheril is very different from his original view, too. Besides, if you see the magical potential of Myth Drannor through the items found in its "Ruins" and the version of the elven city on "Cormanthyr", one can just think his version of the City of Songs is more fantastic than the one we saw in the published books. |

Ed always used Thay as the mysterious origin point for "strange magic" and used them as sinister protagonists in the machinations of the Inner Sea lands (see his Red Wizard NPCs in the Ol' Grey Box). To my knowledge, his players never went there or adventured there.

In Ed Greenwood Presents Elminster's Forgotten Realms, Thay is described as "a China/Far Eastern-style mysterious and menacing empire". Ed postulated that it would be a possible area for Oriental Adventures adventuring. Obviously, Kara-Tur hadn't been grafted into the Forgotten Realms yet. |

Most of the RW-like lands were different in Ed's FR (like Mulhorand).
Also, IIRC, some deities that are pretty much like their RW counterpart (Mielikki, to name one) were somewhat of placeholders that Ed was still working on, but that TSR published anyway (take this with a grain of salt, though, as I can't point to any sources to back my claim). There are also reverse cases, like Eilistraee, whom was created by Ed for his FR, but only became canon when TSR asked for more drow deities. |

Thank you! I always wondered what was original to Ed and what was added in commercializing it as a campaign setting. |

Mostly, the Heartlands and Sword Coast were Ed. He had come up with some of the areas beyond that, but TSR had their own ideas and made changes.
The name Toril wasn't one of Ed's things, either, and Abeir- was added onto that name just to make it be the first entry in the list in the OGB.
Ed originally had Lurue as the goddess of magic, as well.
Jeff Grubb, who named the planet and was the main person for translating Ed's notes into game material, also added Waukeen.
Oh, and Ed had also thought up a Spellplague, but not the Spellplague. Ed's version was more a rough concept of some future doom, nothing specific and certainly not anything actively planned for a specific timeframe.
On a similar note, just about any RSE you can think of was not from Ed's brain. |

There have been over the years answers of Ed, that sometimes refer to his first concept of his vision of the Realms. There also has been some discussion about TSR having control and even surprising Ed by some of the official lore that was printed. I however am not aware of anyone that has cataloged the History of what Ed started with and what he saw the Realms to develpe into as compared to what TSR/WotC told Ed was being changed. Sometimes by him and if he would not being told somebody else would. |
