Hello everyone

I registered recently, but haven't posted here until now. My name is Ben, from Osaka in Japan. (I work for one of the large electronics companies here).

I've had a great time reading lots of threads here, and hope I will be able to contribute in future.

I played D&D with school friends in the 80s, but haven't since then (if there are any players in the Osaka area, I'd like to know!). Since that time, I've read a lot of the FR novels (starting with the Darkwalker series), and most of the PC games.

I'm very interested in the FR milieu, and looking forward to 5e when it comes out. In the meantime, I'm planning to devour as much source material as I can get from Amazon.

What I'd really like to do is write for the FR setting, mostly for my own pleasure; I'm interested in exploring what life would actually be like for low-level characters in Faerun, and developing a non-human POV for demi-human characters. I'm a huge fan of many of the FR novel writers - Doug Niles, Elaine Cunningham, Troy Denning, Erik Scott de Bie, Richard Baker & Lisa Smedman, R A Salvatore. I'm delighted that so many of them post here regularly.

Lastly, I'm an elf fanboy (I know this will annoy some posters here!).

Welcome, BenN! I hear your passion to write for the Realms. I too have been bitten by the same bug and instead of letting it go unchecked, I got to writing my own trilogy, heavily inspired by the feeling I've gotten over the years as I read through the Realms novels and sourcebooks. If you like, feel free to check out my free 'Reader's Guide to Tholann' on my site if you like - address is in my sig :)

Welcome to Candlekeep!

Feel free to ask any questions you may have... A lot of us have been Realms fans for years, and we know a thing or three about the setting. Plus, we've got some of the authors and creators here!

As for the rest of us, we are friendly, mostly harmless, and occasionally strange... Enjoy your stay!

Thanks Drustan

I too will admit to being a big fan of Eilistraee; reading The Lady Penitant trilogy was a mixture of pleasure (for the characters & quality writing) and pain!

Well met, and welcome to Candlekeep, BenN! Glad to see another elf-lover around here (although I'm really more of an Eilistraee fanboy than anything else).

I can also relate to your desire to write for the FR setting, as I've got a collection of partially written stories lying scattered around my house, which will probably never see the light of day. (Primarily because half of them are a little too, uh, 'risque' for most peoples' tastes.)
